Just a few hours before the official launch, we have our first look at the Oppo Find X. In a detailed first impressions by The Verge, we now have our first look at the new phone from the Chinese smartphone maker. And it isn’t even an understatement to call the company’s approach to its latest smartphone ‘radical’.

First, lets get the specifications out of the way. The Oppo Find X is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, and comes with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. You also get a 3,730mAh battery, with support for fast charging through Oppo’s VOOC standard (the same standard that OnePlus’ Dash Charge is based on). The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Oppo’s ColorOS user interface on top, and supports dual-SIM connectivity and global LTE compatibility.
The key feature of the Oppo Find X is its all-screen design; there’s no notch on the phone. Similar to the recently-launched Vivo NEX series, you get a phone that is practically entirely screen at the front, with only the narrow chin that Android smartphone makers have yet to find a way to get rid of. The lack of a notch means you get an evenly-shaped screen, which will mean that Oppo avoids the typical criticism and claims of being an ‘iPhone X copycat’ that follow any notched-screen smartphone.

But the notches on smartphones exist for a reason – the earpiece, front camera and sensors need to go somewhere. The Oppo Find X creates a unique solution to this need: the top of the phone has a motorized pop-up module. This houses both the front and back camera setups, and allows for a rear that is completely free of anything, apart from the logos of course. There isn’t even a physical or under-display fingerprint sensor here, with the Oppo Find X relying entirely on 3D face unlocking or a PIN code for security (exactly like the Apple iPhone X).
The phone has a 25-megapixel front camera, 16-megapixel + 20-megapixel rear camera setup and a full-HD+ OLED screen. The motorized camera apparatus is said to take half a second to open or close, and works with both the camera app as well as the unlocking system. It’s a refreshing new take on the idea of making screens on smartphones bigger without making the phone itself any less handy.
The phone is expected to go on sale globally very soon, and is likely to be launched in India as well. We don’t have any information on pricing yet, but it could be priced at around Rs 45,000 if we were to guess. Stay tuned to us for our continuing coverage on the launch of the Oppo Find X.
